Description:On January 14, 1895 the four return from their ordeal in Folkstone to recuperate from the shock and strain – except Holmes, who seems energized. He opens his amassed mail from his absence, discovering a summons to a certain government office, where he is to receive reward for his part in the retrieval of the Crown Jewels.As winter wanes, everyone seems to be exhibiting their own form of spring fever – Holmes with his old habit which Watson had hoped was put by the wayside forever. The women find themselves restless, and Marion especially exhibits her unrest by throwing Victorian decorum to the wind. But sparks really fly when Marion comes up with a folly that gets Watson truly perturbed when he hears of it from outside sources.Finally, a case. At first it seems trivial, even comical, but after Holmes heads out to Berkeley, Gloucestershire, with Marion in tow it is found to be a more serious matter. The case of 13 missing cattle has Holmes and Marion, who is soon replaced by Watson, traipsing back and forth across the Severn River into Wales and back to England in order to get the prized cattle back to their owner and sort out the layers of deceit, criminal activity and family feuding surrounding the case. Multiple dangers and a gunpoint conversation prevail, as well as a stint of droving cattle for the reluctant Watson and Holmes!Sarah takes up a hobby that opens up long-buried inner turmoil for her, affecting her judgement to the point of risking her own safety, and the first real strain on her relationship with Watson comes to a head and stays with them for weeks before their wedding date.Holmes is involved with some small casework during this time, but nothing to really sink his teeth into. He successfully discovers a simple case of interest through the agony column of a newspaper, much to Marion’s amusement.Watson is looking to the future, and makes plans to buy a medical practice on the outskirts of town where Sarah can be near the country, eventually have her own horse, and still be a short travel time to her cousin.
