Description:This is a transcribed and edited version of the original September 1942 War Diary of the Commander-in-Chief, United States Pacific Fleet (CinCPac). The War Diary for September continues in the format from August. The following sections comprise each the “Narrative”, “Daily Distribution of Operating Forces”, “Part A – Current Movements of Naval Units”, “Part B – Future Movements”, “War Plans – Daily Summary”, the “14th Naval District Combat Intelligence Summary”, and a brief single page “Fleet Intelligence Summary” (this last mentioned section is included inconsistently). September is the final month for the inclusion of the “14th Naval District Combat Intelligence Summary”. On the 28th is a summary of enemy forces, prepared by District Intelligence. “Part C – Information” only appeared once during the month (13 September). This document has been altered from the original for publishing and readability purposes. Individual redundant page headings have been deleted. Empty page space has been removed. Typos have been corrected and inconsistencies eliminated. Geographical misspellings have not been changed. Select words in all-uppercase have been replaced with conventional lower case. Certain pages and/or sections have been rearranged for continuity. Other than the above revisions, this is the original CinCPac War Diary, as submitted to the Chief of Naval Operations.
