Description:The relative lack of engagement with translation as both a professional and scholarly pursuit in the Arab world in general and Egypt in particular is difficult to understand, given the importance of the practice in shaping the past as well as the modern history of the region. To be clear, it is not that concrete acts of translation have not attracted debates of various levels of sophistication among the public and in the academy, but rather that these debates have tended to be fragmented and largely limited in terms of the issues they have focused on, with “quality” and “errors” being the usual two entry points. They have also generally remained disconnected from the extensive research conducted in the academy, whether by scholars of translation or, increasingly, by scholars from a wide range of other disciplines, as I have already pointed out. Despite the fact that the American University in Cairo (AUC) has no dedicated translationprogram, it has led the way for a number of years in terms of encouraging engagement with different aspects of translation, creating a research culture around it, and enhancing its visibility in the country and beyond. The series of seminars and public lectures on translation, many of which are represented in this anthology, attest to this active role played by AUC scholars and students, as does the recent issue of Alif (Volume 38, 2018) on the theme of “Translation and the Production of Knowledge(s).” In many ways, then, this anthology continues a tradition that is intended to give impetus to the development of Egyptian and Arab discourses on translation both within and beyond the AUC. It is a welcome and important contribution to raising the profile of translation, in all its forms, and of translators in the regionWe have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
