Political Uncertainty, Violence and Hope in Uganda: A Personal Account

Charles Kisembo
4.9/5 (19683 ratings)
Description:Stability Emerges From Uganda’s Violent Past in Political MemoirOver the years, Uganda has seen Political Uncertainty, Violence and Hope. Author Charles Kisembo sees his country from a unique perspective, as both a former soldier and as an educator. He outlines Milton Obote’s social, economic, and military policies, showing how they catapulted military dictator Idi Amin to power in 1971. This led to over 300,000 Ugandans being slaughtered under Amin over the next eight years. Like Hitler before him, Amin is considered one of the most brutal oppressors in the world. The author describes the efforts to depose Obote and Amin from power, culminating in Museveni’s takeover from the Okello Junta in 1986. The Museveni takeover triggered political oppositions and insurgencies that spanned almost 20 years. He writes: “The author has scanned through a history of almost 30 years of conflict and violence. On the contrary, the period has also been one of stability and national progress. Since 1986, Uganda has had peace and stability, which ushered in a stable political environment, leading to Uganda’s growth; and playing an increased role in international politics.”Charles Kisembo was born in Uganda in 1959 in what is now the Kamwenge District. In 1984, he attended Makerere University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. In 1991, he enrolled for a master’s degree in history. In 2007, he received a master’s degree in defence studies at Kings College, London. Col. Kisembo has 35 years of military experience, and was recently appointed Military Assistant (MA) to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF)-UPDF. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate at Warnborough College, Ireland. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
