Manohar Indian Travels of Thevenot and Careri: Being the Third Part of Travels of Jean de Thevenot into the Levant and The Third Part of a Voyage Round the World by John Francis Gemelli Careri
Description:About the this rare and valuable work the narrator has made a noble attempt to portray the narrative of the Indian part of the travels of two world fame travellers. Both travelled during the period of Mughal Emperor when Aurangzeb was in throne. The first traveller Jean de Thevenot was a Frenchman, visited India between 1666 and 1667, and the second traveller John Francis Gemelli Careri was an Italian, in 1695 and 1696. Much in the manner of the travelogues written by European travellers in that century, these narratives are very observant, and notice just about everything that the travellers observe, saw, heard, or experienced during their tour. The popular history, the state of the country, the description and the intrigues of the Mughal court, the mode of the emperor, description of wars and feuds, trade and commerce, local traditions, notes of the geography, etc, all find mention in this valuable book. Both these men travelled extensively in the west of India, and made occasional forays to Delhi in the north and Hyderabad in the south. It contains numerous plates and maps to make it more interesting and worth readable and informative. About the Author :-Surendranath Sen was born in 29th July 1890.
