Excerpt: Sun Yat-sen (pinyin: Sn Yixin; 12 November 1866 12 March 1925) was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader. As the foremost pioneer of Nationalist China, Sun is frequently referred to as the Father of the Nation. Sun played an instrumental role in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty in October 1911, the last imperial dynasty of China. Sun's chief legacy resides in his developing a political philosophy known as the Three Principles of the People: nationalism, democracy, and the people's livelihood. The birth name of Sun Yat-sen was Sun Wen (Sn W n, ) and official name was Sun Deming (Sn D m ng, ). During childhood, he had the child name Dixiang (D xi ng, ).
