It must have been a strange sight for the casually passing French soldiers, to see their sixteen compatriots standing silently--listening to a man sing a song that they scarcely knew, though one which means so much to so many thousands of our countrymen. I had but finished, when bang! bang! bang! bang!--four "75's" fired over our heads--going to kill those who should sing another national anthem.
