Description:The Sudarium is a rectangular cloth that was probably placed over the head of the corpse of an adult male of normal constitution. Tradition holds that it was rescued from Jerusalem just before the Persian invasion of AD 614 and brought in an ark or chest along with other objects to Oviedo in northern Spain, where it has been venerated in the cathedral there for a long time as having covered the head of Jesus after the crucifixion. Himself based in northern Spain, historian Guscin investigates the history of the cloth. He draws on the archives of Oviedo, Toledo, Seville, and the Biblioteca Nacional of Madrid as well as from manuscripts from France and Belgium to establish the exact historical route of the cloth.
