Description:The German Ideology: Part One, with Selections from Part Two and Three, Together with Marx's "Introduction to a Critique of Political Economy" The purpose of this edition is to make easily available to English readers the really living part of Marx' and Engels' great seminal work, The German Ideology. The full text, which Marx and Engels were not able to get published in their lifetimes, occupies some 660 closely printed pages; and the greater part of it consists of a detailed point-by-point polemic against the "Young Hegelians" and others from whom Marx and Engels were then separating themselves—Bruno Bauer, Mx Stirner and the "true socialism" of Moses Hess and Karl Grün. This lengthy polemic makes very heavy reading today and retains little more than an historical interest for scholars concerned with "the German Ideology" of the 1840s. But it was introduced by a brilliant exposition of the fundamental ideas of historical materialism and scientific communism which Marx and Engels were then working out. This is, indeed, their first exposition of the new revolutionary philosophy, and as such is written with all the freshness of a new discovery. Part One of The German Ideology remains a basic text for every student of Marxism. This edition contains only the First Part of the complete work, plus a number of excerpts presenting the most telling points, which remain fully relevant today, out of the polemics which occupied the parts of the work not included in this edition. The editor has added an Introduction dealing with the place of The German Ideology in the evolution of Marxism, and containing a summary of the contents of the controversies which occupied the parts of the work not included in this edition. The actual text of this whole work exists only in Marx' and Engels' handwritten manuscripts, some parts of which have been lost. As they could not find a publisher, it was never finally prepared by them for publication and there remain some doubts as to exactly how the text should be arranged and divided up. The present editor has made some slight rearrangement of the order of sentences or paragraphs in some passages as compared with previous editions, and has added some explanatory sub-headings, with a view to greater ease of reading. As appendices are added Marx' famous Theses of Feuerbach, and his unfinished Introduction to a Critique of Political Economy written in 1857 and not previously published in English translation. The complete text of The German Ideology is also available in a hardback edition printed in Moscow and published by Progress Publishers, Moscow, and Lawrence and Wishart Ltd., London. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
