Of Druid, Ashburton: Biographical Sketch and Report of FuneralIt was with the deepest regret that the inhabi tants of Ashburton heard of the death of Mr. P. Fabyan S. Amery, of Druid, which took plaoe early on Friday morning, at the age of 67, after an illness of less than a week's duration. Up to the end of last year he had enjoyed good health, but since that he had suffered from an affection of the heart, but had apparently recovered from it. The strain of his numerous public duties began to effect him again, and on Sunday morn ing he became so unwell that Dr. Fitzpatrick was summoned. The patient appeared to be making satisfactory progress on Thursday, and consequently his demise was unexpected. As recently as the previous Friday he attended a meeting of the Man ers of the Council Schools, of which body he was hairman. As one of the prin eipel landowners, he always took a very deep ih terest in local affairs, and will be greatly mimed by a wide circle of friends. He took an active part in the 1mm, movement for providing a recreation ground for the young people of the town, and was one of the lessees of the ground. Deceased was one of the oldest andl most inﬂuential members of the Congregational Church. He took a keen inter est in politics, and was a staunch supporter of the Liberal party in the Ashburton Division. Much sympathy is felt for his brother, Mr. John S. Amery, to whom deceased was greatly at tached, in the great loss he has sustained.
