Description:In this workbook/guide, we will explain Power BI features that can be used to create a Dashboard of different Visual Reports. We will take students through a step-by-step process displaying all major capabilities. The final step will require posting the Dashboard on the internet to be shared with others.Power BI is integrated with Excel and evolved from Excel Add-Ins including PowerPivot, PowerQuery, PowerView, and PowerMap. You will see many similarities in Excel and Power BI, but the features in Power BI are much better integrated with many different data sources. Power BI is the next step in analyzing information and integrating data. However, Excel is still needed to build mathematical formulas as well as build charts and PivotTables. Power BI can also be used provide analysis from a Dashboard technology perspective.The following are the steps to be covered: Get Data - This will extract the data source from a database such as Excel, Access, etc.Query Editor - This will allow us to review the data extracted and filter or remove specific records prior to saving it to the Power BI file.Data View - This will allow us to review the structure of the data extracted and add additional fields as needed. These new fields can be used for establishing relationships or creating new fields.Relationships - This will allow different tables to display how data is tied together. Storing all data in a single table isn't as efficient as storing data in separate tables containing specific information.Visual Report - This will generate different reports describing the data from different tables. These reports will include Charts, Matrix, Tables, Summary Information, Maps, etc.Filter Report - Once you create a report, it can be Filtered to display desired information.Format Report - Once you create a report, it can be Formatted to display the desired layout.Publish Report - Once reports are complete, they can be Published to a web browser version of Power BI and shared with others on the internet.Create A Dashboard - Once reports are Published, they can be organized into a Dashboard layout for others to preview.
