That fascination took him to the Juilliard School of Music in New York, to the Saint Louis Institute of Music where he studied with Leo Sirota (who was himself a protégé of the legendary Busoni), and to a Fulbright scholarship at the Paris Conservatory in Paris. As the "Pied Piper Pianist," Mr. Bryan earned the "Best Music Performance Award" in 1957 for school assembly performances awarded by the International Platform Association. He also served as Emeritus Professor of Music for twenty-eight years at Foothill College in Los Altos, California. William J. Bryan has countless stories about the music and the piano he loves, the people who create the music and their contributions to society, and those who continue to play it. In his memoirs, Fairy Pudding, he writes about his life, his travels around the world, and many of the interesting artists he has met. Interspersed throughout, he also includes recipes for his favorite dishes, which make the book worth a read just to try the simple, elegant recipes: FIRE ISLAND FAIRY PUDDING: 1 can tuna, 1 can of mushroom soup, 1 small can of Pimentos, 1 package of wide egg noodles, 2 times amount of grated cheddar than tuna, ½ package of frozen green peas. Boil noodles in lots of slightly salted water until "al dente." Drain.
