Description:Excerpt from A Statistical Sketch of the Corn Trade of Canada, &CThe wheat of Lower Canada varies in quality, though I think, much less than that of England. One great reason for this I take to be the general steadiness of the weather about the time of harvest, an advantage which England cannot be said to enjoy. The grain itself is of good quality, weighing from 56 to 62lbs. The bushel; but it is brought to market in a most abominably dirty condition, full of oats, wild tares, (poix sauvages, ) and dust. The slightest improvement would remedy all this. A sum mer fallow would effectually eradicate the weeds, and the use of good clean seed wheat would stop their recurrence.
