Description:"Golden Strings" is a literary odyssey, that takes place in the heady summer of 1974. The protagonist is Gary Sapling, an eighteen-year-old gifted singer-songwriter (with the acoustic guitar). Gary works a menial job at the local mall in (make-believe) Panville, California, but dreams of making it big in the music biz. An invitation to take time off work to visit his divorced uncle Karl in a remote part of the state is the beginning of a new phase of Gary's life. An impulsive visit to San Francisco leads to them checking into a hotel there, for what is meant to be a short stay. Gary has a chance meeting with Bonnie, a young woman who belongs to a guerrilla theatre troupe called the 'frisco Freedom Collective, who live communally in the city. Gary accepts her invite to play his acoustic guitar at their live show that night, and all involved have a great time. Before long, Gary moves in with the Collective, and finds himself in a love triangle with two of the young female members. He also makes inroads into the local music scene, and stars in a short 'indie' movie in which he emerges, god-like, from the Pacific Ocean, gold-painted guitar in hand.
