Description:Excerpt:The Department has now under preparation a series of experiments to test the frictional resistance exerted between cylinders assembled under shrinkage, the objects proposed being to ascertain the absolute value of such resistance in the cases under test, and also what relation the fric tional resistance bears to the normal pressure, and to the extent of sur face of contact where the pressure per superficial unit is constant.
