Description:The year is 2025, and baseball has been decimated by a second steroid era, causing fans to move on to other sports and leave their national pastime behind. The Chicago Cubs have come in last place the previous five years and its once loyal fan base have moved on to new ways to occupy their time. In a Chicago downtown restaurant, Cub’s owner Big Eddie Dillinger is having lunch with some of his wealthy friends when an argument evolves. Big Eddy is tired of losing money on his baseball investment and blames the players, claiming they aren’t as good as they purport. He even goes as far to claim anyone can bat over .200 in the game. This leads to an ill-advised wager and Big Eddie looking for a commoner he can place on his roster to attempt a season with a greater than .200 average. In walks Jacob Riley-literally into the restaurant and figuratively into the folklore of Chicago Cub’s baseball. Jacob works hard, but realizes he cannot possibly compete with the others at his level through talent alone. He reluctantly uses his ingenuity to find a loophole in the game which ends up being a boon to himself and his team. Jake’s once timid and tentative character transforms into one of certainty, causing good fortune in baseball and his personal life.
