Description:Excerpt from The Connoisseur, Vol. 51: An Illustrated Magazine for Collectors; May-August, 1918 Witness in num er able studies of Hotei, the God of Plenty, a gem among such at the museum being one made at Mihazuki by the famous Ro kubei(1737-i799); while two neigh bouring things which must be cited are a lion in black and yellow by the Kyoto man, Ogata Sansei(166o - I743), celebrated in Japan by the name of Kenzan, under which he worked, and a human face by the renowned Tokio master of the nineteenth cen tury, Kenya Miura. But lovelier than any of this trio, in deed a masterpiece, is a tiny Kwannon, its colour a delicate blue, its modelling so sharp at places as to be reminis cent of pen-draw ing, this work revealing no mark whereby to identify its maker.
