The Heavy Dancers

E.P. Thompson
4.9/5 (25117 ratings)
Description:Essays on peace movement, European divide before the collapse of Communism, a retrospect of his experiences in WWII. Includes his famous Oxford debate with Caspar Weinberger. Edward Palmer Thompson (2/3/1924–8/28/1993) was an historian, socialist, writer & peace campaigner. He's known for his historical work on the British radical movements in the late 18th & early 19th centuries, in particular THE MAKING OF THE ENGLISH WORKING CLASS (63). He also published influential biographies of Wm Morris (55) & (posthumously) WILLIAM BLAKE (93) & was a prolific journalist & essayist. He also published the novel THE SYKAOS PAPERS & a collection of poetry. He was one of the principal intellectuals of the Communist Party in Great Britain. Altho he left the party in 1956 over the Soviet invasion of Hungary, he nevertheless remained a ‘historian in the Marxist tradition,’ calling for a rebellion against Stalinism as a prerequisite for the restoration of communists' ‘confidence in our own revolutionary perspectives’. He played a key role in the 1st New Left in Britain in the late 50s. He was a vociferous left-wing socialist critic of the Labour governments of '64–70 & '74–79, & during the 80s, he was the leading intellectual light of the movement against nuclear weapons in Europe. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
