It was also necessary to furnish separate introductory chapters to the various sections of the coinages which were struck outside the capital and in the Provinces. The Introduction proper treats mainly of the coinage of the Roman mint. Descriptions with illustrations of coins not in the National Collection have been given, when considered necessary for the classification.
