The problem is I’m not sure who or what it is I’m searching for. All I know is I’m tired of hiding, tired of being afraid. Only I’ve kept myself sheltered for too long. Because now the touch of a man is not just something I want, it’s something I need. So here I sit, perched on a stool at the end of a bar, wearing the type of dress I never wear, about to do something I never do, all the while wondering if I’ll even have the courage to go through with it. And then I see him from across the way. The ice blue eyes, the salt-and-pepper hair, the gleam of a grey three-piece suit. So self-composed, so self-assured. So knowing. Turn away I think, but I can’t. Then he’s gone, only to reappear with a gentle caress, and a graze of his cheek along mine as he whispers into my ear, “I’m in the hotel next door. Penthouse.” (This book was originally written as a standalone short story, but due to popular demand, it is being extended. So please consider this the prequel to Lovely Little Stray (a full length novel). This is a dark, sultry novelette of 11,076 words that contains strong/rough elements of dominance and submission. My dress now open in the back, his hand moves up and down the curve of my spine, stroking me as he then says, “And I will call you…Pet.” This time I don’t gasp, because I can’t breathe, but he gives no acknowledgement of my struggle. He simply caresses my skin, as though to soothe the impact of his words. His fingers move to my shoulders where he begins slipping off my dress, but my hands stop him. He doesn’t push, instead he leans down and kisses the hollow where my neck curves and meets my shoulder. “Are you afraid?” he asks. “Yes,” I say with a rush of breath. “I’m not—I’ve never…” “Done this sort of thing before?” I nod, sensing he wears a slight smile.
