90-Pound Heavyweight: The Life and Triumph of Janet Barnes

Angela Barnes
4.9/5 (34134 ratings)
Description:90-POUND HEAVYWEIGHT: The Life and Triumph of Janet Barnes Tells the story of a remarkable woman who didn't let quadriplegia hold her back. It is the story of my mother – her life as the longest living quadriplegic (incomplete), Guinness World Records March 21, 2012. It is a mosaic of statement, vignettes, pictures and poetry sharing her sheer determination to live and love as did all others. She proved that one can work, marry, have and raise children. She proved that one could, in spite of physical and emotional challenges, be as independent as all others. Janet Barnes was educated – she learned to photo touch and worked from home, she wrote poetry, she tutored young people, and when she “retired” she volunteered her services. Her story tells of a woman who had faith in God, in life, in herself and in her fellow beings. Her story reminds us of what Victor Frankl said in “Mans Search for Meaning” when we have a purpose, the means to carry it out is revealed to us. At every juncture in her life, it was revealed to her what to do. At the age of 16 she invented and had manufactured a special bicycle for her own use. In her later years she availed herself of computer training. She continued to learn and to utilize her skills throughout her life. While confined to a wheel chair she could be seen going shopping and visiting. Nothing kept her from participating fully in life. Janet Barnes was critically injured at age 83. She was struck by an automobile while in her wheel chair. The last year of her life she had multiple surgeries as most of her bones were broken. She was on a ventilator which prevented her from talking for awhile. She recovered and healed all fractures, got off the ventilator, not once but twice. Through it all her smiles and the twinkle in her eyes showed that, in spite of everything, she continued to be an inspiration to her care givers and the many thousands whose lives she touched over her 84 years and 11 months of life. All royalties from the book are going to support the 90-pound heavyweight Janet Barnes Legacy Foundation., a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
