Description:Author commentary:Two robots, two teenage boys, two mountain men, a crone, and an imaginary zebra. These are some of the characters in this, my latest story. this one is a short novel, at just under 35000 words. If you would like to try something smaller, The Deerpark Incident, is an action/adventure, and Overheard by the Baker is a romantic/comedy. (The Baker is the better of the two) The Zebra is a western/adventure, and it is my best work yet. If you read it, it would be great to hear from you--please leave a review, you will not go unnoticed.Preview:1)I hear their voices from a distance, and I approach them using the silent step that David taught me. When I am close enough to watch them, they still do not know I am here. Julie has blonde hair and blue eyes, a combination that, while not objectively attractive, is much prized by the men of the Wanderers. This explains, in part, her popularity among the young men. She is also tall for her age, which makes her seem more a woman than her years.Julie does not notice the attention, because her whole life, she has had Jakob as her best friend. Now, Jakob has grown muscular and curly-headed, and I can see what Jakob cannot: Julie has eyes only for him.Kissing Julie is not what young Jakob has on his mind today; instead, he is digging to find worms. Every Wednesday, I go fishing with Jakob; lately, Julie comes, too. Jakob claims that the worms he collects are for his fishing trip, but we all know the truth: Jakob loves to eat worms. He has been a worm-eater for as long as I have known him, and though they are probably a healthy source of protein, I do not know one other human who will eat them."Is it a dare?" I hear Julie's voice, taunting Jakob."Oh, okay then.""What do you want me to do?" Julie's voice is sweet and melodic. She is hopeful, but I can tell she has just achieved a major victory--she has something up her sleeve. She wants to show Jakob how much he means to her; but Jakob? Clueless."Eat a worm." Jakob teases, knowing she will never do it. Just to be safe, he offers only a very small worm, so that he will not loose one of his fat, valuable worms if she swats it away.Julie closes her eyes, grabs the worm from Jakob's hand, and pops it into her mouth. The worm is gone. Jakob's eyes are wide in disbelief."Did you like it?" He asks without thinking."Not bad." She looks at him with eyes that claim victory. "Your turn.""Okay, what do I have to do?""Close your eyes."Jakob closes his eyes, and Julie maneuvers herself in for the biggest, clumsiest kiss I have ever seen. She giggles when Jakob's eyes pop open in shock. Jakob does not retreat from Julie's kiss, but he struggles to maintain his balance. His right hand finds the trunk of a nearby tree, but his left hand flails through the air until he grasps a part of Julie.Julie gasps at that, and the kiss is over. Jakob immediately releases the breast, but still says nothing. This is the point when Julie finally sees me. She hops into the air, and bounds off into the woods, trailing behind her giggles that resound with the notes of youthful conquest. Jakob just stares at me, mouth agape."Ready to go fishing?" My voice betrays nothing. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
