Description:When the son of a very rich family disappears in Chile and they have no body to bring home they want to know what happened. The authorities give them plenty of sympathy along with an unlikely story of an accident that caused the death of their son. Without a reasonable account of his disappearance or their son's body to bury, the grieving family has questions that demand answers. In frustration the family sends lawyers and agents from the best detective agency in New York but they all get stonewalled with what seems to be the official line. To help, a friend of the family, an Air Force General, suggests Dan Ryan who was once the General's lead investigator in the search for drug dealers preying on US servicemen in Germany. The General recommend Ryan because he is honest, very tough when he needs to be, tenacious and is not afraid of danger. The General assures the family that Ryan will bring them the answers about what happened to their son Ted Backer. As good as Dan Ryan is as an investigator he doesn't really want to be a private detective. He finds the routine of chasing after the errant husbands and wives or people stealing from their employers boring. The work is not his life goal but he does it to accumulate money for his dream.
