Atwood, Delivered in the Congregational Church, Newington, Conn., July 4, 1876 At a meeting of citizens, early in the summer, committees were appointed and assigned to special duties; and to their well-directed efforts is to be at tributed much of the success of the celebration. The day was ushered in with firing of cannon and ringing of bells. At ten o'clock the Congregational church, which had been opened for the occasion, was densely crowded with an eager throng of citizens and strang ers; and Charles K.
