Description:First let me introduce myself. I'm Don Monson & I'm an honorary member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Chapter 13, Walnut Creek (also the chapter Sgt. at Arms). Also, a member of Marine Corps League Detachment 942, Lafayette, Calif. I had met John Egan some 11 yrs. ago & have often had a chance to talk with him & he always has some great "sea stories"...!! On 12 Aug. 2007 Heber A. Holbrook told me a story about John & another Marine actions that occurred during the battle where he (John) was badly wounded & RAdm. Callahan was killed. John went up to the bridge & brought down Adm. Callahan remnants to the deck...badly wounded it hard to understand how John & the other Marine were able to carry this off ...but they did...Heber was an eye witness. This is in the best traditions of the USMC...I had asked John on a couple occasions about what happen but he just changed the subject. My feeling & they are just feeling...is that John should have some honor given to him...so what I'm asking is for your interest & help in this mat-ter. I have no idea how I would proceed with this or even if it is something that I should bring up ...it's late & if nothing is done this will surely be lost in his-tory...like so many honorable actions of sailors & Marines...!!We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
