Richard (our protagonist and narrator) was born the day Granny was released.The young Richard Dink, nicknamed "Dicky" or "Dinky," was largely ignored by his exhibitionist mother, used as bait by his woman-chasing father, and abused by his pyromaniac step-sister, leaving him to be raised by the Reverend Granny.At the age of three years and nine months, little Dick showed his predilection for preaching by reading aloud from the Bible. He memorized large portions of the Bible and gave his first sermon on his 16th birthday. He confesses he was smarter than everyone, but in his memoir he recognizes that disclosing truths was not his strong suit. "Sermons are shows. Don't forget that," he advises his readers.
