Oh! Is That Why I am Still Single?

Description:Coming Spring 2013...I have always had many male friends. But yet as I got older, I realized that at the age of 33 years old, I have never had a complete and successful date. It just dawned on me that in a little over eight years after being married (or so I thought) I have never had a real date. You know the date when the guy comes to my house, knocks on the door dressed nice and smelling good, carrying flowers, walk me to the car and assist me down any steps as a gesture (and not because I need it) opens the car door, and shuts it once I am inside. Then we go out to dinner and maybe a movie and return home. During our travels, he opens my car door and assist me out the car…walks me to my front door, gives me a kiss on the cheek and leaves.I can’t remember ever being asked by a guy to go steady and he gives me a going steady ring. While we are at it – I have had several marriage proposals beginning at the age of16 but none like I dreamed. Maurice was my first marriage proposal, and he mailed me an engagement ring with a teddy bear, and photos of him proposing to me. Lester proposed to me in the mall after we spent…no wasted a lot of money in a game arcade and on a $500 dog. He bought me a wedding ring set that I had picked out from a jewelry store. I-along with everyone thought that Kyle was going to pop the question-especially since we had spent so many years together and discussed it. And not to mention that guy whom I really did marry (or so I thought) proposed to me over the phone and with no ring. Some proposals for marriage came while having sex. All of the proposals never contained the attributes of my dream marriage proposal whereas the guy surprises me by getting down on one knee and popping the question after a healthy and successful relationship was established. The proposal would precede a huge wedding day with…well I don’t want to give it all away.Although I have had bits and pieces of potentially successful relationships, I realize that I have been settling for a slice instead of getting the whole relationship pie so I can enjoy as much as I want. Think of your favorite desert. Do you want to be able to indulge when you chose or be limited in your portions? I know that I am a good woman and I know that I have a lot of love to give. But it seems as though I love too hard when I shouldn’t, and don’t love the best when I should. Like I mentioned in my book I Married Satan I wonder how many men who were just supposed to be seasonal men in my life I tried to keep around for a lifetime and how many men who could have potentially been sent by God to be a man for my lifetime- I pushed away. Is that why I prefer to work so that I still avoid the stress of being at home and being alone?Around the same time that I received that revelation, I worked at a job, which had all women in the office except one male. And so while we were there workingshift work, and to make the time go faster while we were there – we would have conversations that always seemed to have I just don’t understand come up in them when it came to discussing men and our relationships with them. So I posted some parts of the conversation’s content on Facebook to get responses and advice, but I didn’t quit get the response that I was hoping for. So I started just blatantly asking some of my male friends for advice in various dating situations of both my own, and my other female friends. Well, as some of those male friends who based on what could be deemed as a violation of the number one Man Law told me that inside scoop. I began to realize that a lot of what I thought and understood about men – I didn’t, and that is why I have NEVER been on a complete great date. Maybe the man who finally does grant my wish will be the one whom I’m ordained by God to marry.Well once I started having these conversations about men/boys/males and why they do the things that they do, say the things that they say act the way that they act and avoid commitments; I decided that I needed to share this information and help my sistahs to be informed about what I was learning so that as we all take into consideration this advise and these pointers. Then if we follow simple steps, rules and regulations, which came directly from males, maybe – just maybe we too can have one of those successful relationships that we dream of having and truly desire. We al have ideal mentalities of what we want and expect from a man based on our upbringings and various backgrounds but the truth is that just as the Bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Could this all possibly be another tactic used by the devil to try to destroy relationships between humans and the future of families? As one of my male friends Darron said, and it confirms in a nutshell what I learned about the entire game of dating - we both male and female people have made the dating arena much more complicated than it needed to be.
