Description:Doudney (1841-1926) was an English novelist and poet, best known as a children's writer and hymn writer. She published her first novel in 1871 and achieved success with her third, Archie's Old Desk, the following year. Whilst early in her career she concentrated on writing stories for a variety of journals including Dickens's All the Year Round and The Girl's Own Paper, twenty years after the publication of her first novel she had produced over thirty more, the majority aimed at girls although she wrote some adult novels too.
