Before she died I learned she had this memoir she’d written over many years. I contacted my mother and asked if I could see it. My mother was delighted and attached a copy to an email. I hastily put the book into print at Lulu.com a Print On Demand company. I sent her a copy so she could see it in book form before she died. Then I attempted to edit and smooth the texts, and I added pictures, and used one of my own paintings as cover art. I paid for enough copies to give each of my siblings a copy of our mother’s book. This book gave me insight. I came to know my mother through these many short memories of her childhood. I wish there had been more. I wish she had done this to cover her entire life. I’d like to have known what she thought of me, how she met my father, why she put up with what she put up with. But I am so happy to have this much of her.
